Parents: following your child’s schooling from a phone

A parent wants to know three things: is my child at school, how are they getting on, and where do school fees stand. With Sahel EDU, a parent sees it in the parents’ space, from a phone, with a single account for all their children. This page says how to get access, what is found there screen by screen, and what appears only once the school has published the results.

What a parent wants to know, and how it is usually learned

Usually, a parent learns about absences when the child mentions them, about marks when the paper report card is handed out, and about the balance at the cash desk or the school office. Each answer means a trip to the school.

  • Did my child come to school today?
  • What are the marks and the place in the class?
  • How much is left to pay, and do I have my receipt?
  • What homework is there, and what is the timetable?
  • Has the school summoned me or written to me?

How a parent gets access

Access is not created by the parent: the school opens the account. The school office (or the head of school) creates the parent’s identifier, in the form P-XXXX-XXXX, from an official identity document, and hands over a temporary password. A student can also enter the parent’s identifier once; the school validates the link before it is used.

  • Open the school’s site in the phone’s browser; it can be added to the home screen. There is no app to download from a store.
  • Sign in with the parent identifier and the temporary password.
  • Choose a language: French, English or Arabic, written right to left.
  • One account is enough for all the children, even if they are in several schools of the network.
  • Open “My children” to move from one child to another.

What a parent sees, screen by screen

Each child has their own page. A parent sees only their own children: a student who is not linked to the parent stays closed.

  • Marks and report cards: after the head of school has published the term. When the school’s authorisation has been verified, the report card carries a QR Code that lets anyone check its authenticity. The “Listen” button reads the page aloud, in the language of the screen.
  • Absences and late arrivals: the child’s register, with what has been excused.
  • Timetable and homework to do, taken from the lesson log.
  • School fees: fees item by item, due dates, what is paid and the balance still to pay.
  • Receipts and invoices as PDFs, and the family’s account statement.
  • Summonses to confirm, school announcements with a count of those not yet read, and the school rules to read and confirm.

What a parent does not see before publication

Marks, averages and report cards stay hidden from the student and the family until the head of school has published the term, after the paper report card has been handed over. This is deliberate: the school keeps control of when results are announced, and nobody learns them before anyone else.

By default, an overdue amount that has not been paid withholds the handing over and the download of the paper report card, never the marks, averages or ranks, nor enrolment, nor the documents for an official exam. The family is told in its own space, free of charge, and the head of school can switch the rule off or release a report card case by case.

What a parent can do, and what is not possible

A parent can excuse an absence: on the spot, with the senior supervisor and a supporting paper; online, only if the head of school has opened that option. A parent can also declare a deposit made at the bank or by mobile phone, with a photo of the slip, which the bursar checks. The fees position can be shared on WhatsApp, with a link valid for 7 days and no marks or absences, for the relative who pays.

On the other hand, the space collects nothing: no online payment, no payment link. It sends no notification to the phone; the parent looks when they open the site. Pages already seen can be re-read without a network for 7 days, but actions need a connection.

  • Declare the people authorised to collect the child.
  • Grant or withdraw consent for the child’s data; a withdrawal is respected immediately.
  • Read the child’s health sheet: only the head of school and the senior supervisor consult it, not the teachers.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to download an app?

No. The space opens in the phone’s browser and can be added to the home screen. There is no app in the app stores.

Why do my child’s marks not appear?

Because the head of school publishes them only after the paper report card has been handed over. Before publication, nothing appears in the family’s space.

How do I pay school fees?

At the school’s cash desk, or by a deposit that you then declare with a photo of the slip. The school records the payment, then the receipt and balance appear in the space.

I have several children in two schools: do I need two accounts?

No. The account and the parent identifier are shared across the network: one is enough for all the children.

My school does not use Sahel EDU yet: what can I do?

The school opens the accesses; talk to the head of school. The school can take a free trial of 30 days, with no commitment, before agreeing a price.
