Running a technical school: industrial and commercial series, workshops and exams

A technical school is not run like a general secondary school: many specialities, workshop teaching, internships with companies, exams in several stages. Sahel EDU, software for technical schools, knows the industrial series (F), the commercial and administrative series (STT), the TI series, and the CAP, BT, BEP and BP qualifications, and leaves the head to decide on the coefficients that no text fixes.

Technical education, several pathways

In Cameroon, on the francophone side, the technical first cycle lasts four years and leads to the CAP (industrial, commercial or agricultural). The second cycle is entered by competitive exam, into the technical seconde or the first year of the BEP, and leads to the probatoire and the technical baccalaureate (series AF, F or STT), to the technician’s diploma (BT), to the BEP or to the vocational diploma (BP). On the anglophone side, the GCE Board runs the TVEE, at Intermediate then Advanced level.

The list of series is long and it changes. According to the Baccalaureate Office, the industrial series include F1 (mechanical manufacturing), F2 (electronics), F3 (electrical engineering), F5 (refrigeration and air conditioning) and F8 (health and social science and technology); the STT service series include ACA, ACC, CG (accounting and management), FIG and SES. Software has to be able to carry this list as it stands.

  • CAP: end of the technical first cycle (industrial, commercial or agricultural).
  • Probatoire then technical baccalaureate: series AF, F and STT.
  • BT, BEP and BP: vocational diplomas and certificates, depending on the speciality.
  • TVEE Intermediate and Advanced for anglophone schools.

Series and coefficients in Sahel EDU

Sahel EDU carries the series F1 to F8 (including F4-BE), IH, MA and ESF, the series G1 to G3 (STT: ACA, ACC, CG, FIG, SES), the TI series and the CAP, BT, BEP and BP specialities. The coefficients of order 92/22 are transcribed for the general second cycle, displayed and applicable class by class.

For technical education, no text we read fixes the coefficients: they are to be confirmed. The check before publication warns the head, shows the reference points available, and the head clicks “I confirm these coefficients”. If one of them changes afterwards, the confirmation lapses and must be given again. Higher coefficients for vocational subjects are often seen, but it is for the school to settle them.

  • Grades and averages calculated by the same engine as the report card.

Workshops and internships with companies

Technical education includes the practical internship: the yearly calendar text places it in each term and tracks the rate of practical work carried out. Sahel EDU records each internship: the company, the tutor, the school supervisor, the assessment out of 20 and the certificate. A one-page internship form, as a PDF, goes with the official form.

Workshop and practical-work teachers use the same tools as everyone else: register on the phone, marks entry, lesson log. In the TI series, the internship report counts at the probatoire and is defended at the baccalaureate.

Preparing technical exams

Technical exams have their own rules: practical tests, preparation of the raw materials, and two-stage deliberations (eligibility, then admission) for several series and diplomas. The baccalaureate, the probatoire, the BT, the BEP and the BP come under the Baccalaureate Office; the BEPC and the CAP under the DECC; the TVEE under the GCE Board.

Sahel EDU prepares each candidate’s file: the exact list of students in the exam class, candidate status, birth certificates to regularise, missing photos and unique student numbers, then files in the templates of the exam offices (Epim’Exams, Spider, GCE Board), to be checked against the official file before the school submits them. Exam fees are paid to the State: the school only notes the reference of the official receipt.

  • Mock exams with anonymous marking.

Fees, the head’s overview and limits

Fees are followed item by item (enrolment, tuition, uniform, exam…), with a payment schedule, numbered receipts with the amount in words and a list of unpaid fees. An item belonging to a State platform, such as exam fees, does not count in the amount due and is not collected at the cash desk. The head follows the dashboard, and student cards in bank-card format carry a verifiable QR Code once the school’s opening authorisation has been verified.

Sahel EDU keeps neither an inventory of workshop machines and equipment nor a stock of raw materials. It transmits nothing automatically to the exam platforms and does not replace the official registration.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sahel EDU know the F, STT and TI series?

Yes. The series F1 to F8, the series G1 to G3 and STT, the TI series and the CAP, BT, BEP and BP specialities are part of the reference data.

Are the technical coefficients official in the software?

No, they are to be confirmed: no text we read fixes them. The head sets them and clicks “I confirm these coefficients” before publication.

Can we follow students’ internships?

Yes: company, tutor, supervisor, assessment out of 20 and certificate, with a one-page PDF internship form.

Does Sahel EDU send candidate lists to the Baccalaureate Office?

No. It produces files to be checked against the official file, which the school submits itself. Nothing is transmitted automatically.

Can we try it before committing?

Yes. The free trial lasts 30 days, with no commitment. The price is then negotiated with each school and can be read on the Pricing page.
