School management software in Gabon: what the Gabonese system requires
In Gabon, a school works with a single French-language system, three terms, assessment by stages, public, faith-based, secular and contracted schools, and a calendar published every year. This page describes that system from public sources, then says plainly what Sahel EDU, school management software designed in Ngaoundéré, already offers a Gabonese school and what is set up with our team.
The Gabonese education system: from pre-school to the final year
According to Gabonese press and guides, pre-school takes children from three to five years old in small, middle and large sections. Primary school runs from CP1 to CM2, lower secondary from the 6e to the 3e and high school from the 2nde to the Terminale. Sources contradict each other on the exact length of primary school, five or six years, so software must not fix that figure.
Technical and vocational education includes vocational high schools, technical high schools and a national business school. The general baccalaureate series cited by the press are A1, A2, B, C and D; the technical series vary from one source to another.
- Pre-school: three to five years old, in three sections.
- Primary: from CP1 to CM2.
- Lower secondary: 6e, 5e, 4e and 3e.
- High school: 2nde, 1re and Terminale.
- Technical and vocational: vocational high schools, technical high schools, national business school.
Exams, assessment by stages and the calendar
Exams are known by name: the CEP at the end of primary school, the BEPC at the end of the 3e and the baccalaureate (general, technological, vocational), with two rounds for the general one. The CEP alone does not secure a place in the 6e: according to the Gabonese press, a national placement commission assigns students. The technical stream leads to the CAP, the BEP and the technician’s certificate. Exam registration goes through digital platforms run by the state: the school prepares its list and documents, but cannot register candidates on its own.
The year has three terms, marked out of 20, with termly and annual reviews and class councils. The calendar presented for 2025-2026 adds stages to this, five in primary and six in secondary, alternating four weeks of teaching with one week of assessment and remedial work. The calendar is published every year with two end-of-year regimes, one for classes without an exam and one for exam classes, and it has already been readjusted during the year: it must never be hard-coded.
Languages, types of school and territorial organisation
French is the language of instruction. Curricula provide for English from pre-school and a second foreign language of choice from the 6e (Spanish, Arabic, German, Mandarin, Kiswahili or Russian): Arabic and English are subjects, not languages of instruction.
Schools are public, faith-based private (Catholic, Protestant, Christian Alliance, Islamic), secular private, recognised or not as serving the public interest, or contracted public schools that follow a French curriculum and keep their own calendar. The private sector takes nearly half of primary pupils (49% in 2019 according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics). The country has nine provinces, including Estuaire (Libreville), Haut-Ogooué (Franceville) and Ogooué-Maritime (Port-Gentil). According to the Gabonese press, for lack of places the state also places 6e students in private schools whose tuition fees it pays.
What Sahel EDU already offers a Gabonese school
Sahel EDU is today designed, validated and usable for schools in Cameroon. For a school in Gabon, the application already reads in French, English and Arabic, counts in CFA francs and has the common tools: classes, marks out of 5, 10, 20 or 100, the register, fees and receipts, and documents that can be verified by QR Code.

- Marks out of 20, averages, ranks and grades worked out by a single engine, with coefficients set by subject.
- The class council: decisions recorded and printed, end-of-year decision (admitted, conditional, repeats, redirected, excluded), closing that freezes the period.
- Splitting students into balanced classes, with the foreign language among the criteria.
- Fees by item, payment schedules and numbered PDF receipts with the amount in words.
- The register and mark entry kept on the phone when the network drops, then sent again when the connection returns.
- Results visible to the student and the family only after the head publishes them.
- A public website for the school in three languages.
